Lease, 1776 August 30, to John Pain.

Mary Stone, widow of William Stone, leases Pain a messuage consisting of a house, shop and slaughterhouse for the term of thirty years. Pain may vacate at the end of seven, fourteen or twenty-one years with six months' notice. The rent is 18£ a year, payable quarterly. The tenement is in Waltham Holy Cross, Essex. A list of fixtures to remain with the property is included. Witnessed by Oliver Cromwell and John Harrison, Million Bank, London.

William Stone was a graduate of Antioch College and the School for Graphic Design in Stockholm, Sweden, where he studied typography and calligraphy. After working at the Franklin Mint and as art director at Embossing Printers, Inc., Stone founded Sequoia Press in 1950. Specializing in fine typography, the Sequoia Press designed and printed corporate magazines and newsletters and participated in the Liber Liborum international Bible project.
